Abigail Pawlett set for Glasgow after PBs at BUCS Indoor Champs

Multi-eventer stars at a top-class BUCS occasion in Sheffield together with hurdler Daniel Goriola in a UK round-up which additionally features a W50 report on the roads and a masters inter-area match

BUCS ATHLETICS INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS, Sheffield, February 23-25

Glasgow-bound pentathlete Abigail Pawlett received an awesome ship off for the World Indoors when she received the hurdles in a PB 8.17 which was backed up by a 14.16m shot PB which received her second spot on the British Universities and Schools Sport (BUCS) Indoor Champs.

Daniel Goriola received the 60m hurdles in 7.72 to go second all-time within the under-20 age group to Jon Ridgeon’s 7.68 which was set nearly 40 years in the past.

Brooke Ironside received the 200m in a championships better of 23.37 whereas European under-20 400m hurdles finalist Emily Newnham improved her 400m championships report from 53,18 to 53.06.

European cross-country bronze medallist Alex Millard received the ladies’s 3000m in 9:06.33 to enhance world silver medallist and Commonwealth champion Lisa Dobriskey’s 19-year-old report.

Triple jumper Archie Yeo added the BUCS title to the UK title he received final week with a 15.73m PB.

One other to achieve the British and BUCS double was pole vaulter Owen Heard who cleared 5.33m.

Former European under-20 and under-23 800m medallist Ethan Hussey confirmed good endurance to win the boys’s 3000m in a PB 8:05.22.

Tyler Bilyard, who ran his first sub-four minute mile earlier within the month after which ran within the World College Video games cross-country, ending seventh, received a sluggish and tactical 1500m.
