Switzerland’s Largest Glacier Set to Soften by 2021
1st September 2025
The Aletsch glacier is more likely to disappear by 2100 if nothing is completed, in response to Legambiente, an Italian group that screens the well being of glaciers in Italy and overseas.
From 2000 to 2023 the glacier retreated by a median of 40m a 12 months, in response to Glamos, the Swiss glacier monitoring community.
At this price, and with out bearing in mind a better degree of world warming than at present, the glacier will disappear in its present type by 2100, “leaving solely patches of ice on the highest altitudes”.
“The Aletsch glacier seems like an ocean of ice in nice misery, regardless of the final snowfalls in July”, stated ecologists and scientists.
