The NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets have signed North Dakota sophomore defenseman Caleb MacDonald to a two-year, entry degree contract starting with the 2025-26 season.
MacDonald recorded three objectives and 7 assists for 10 factors with 42 penalty minutes, 68 blocked pictures, 51 pictures on objective and a plus-7 plus/minus ranking in 35 appearances throughout his sophomore marketing campaign with the Preventing Hawks. He was tied for the workforce lead in penalty minutes and blocked pictures and ranked tied for third in plus/minus ranking.
“Caleb MacDonald is a giant, robust defenseman who excels at blocking pictures and being sound and durable within the defensive zone,” stated Columbus GM Don Waddell in a press release. “We’re happy to welcome him to the Blue Jackets and sit up for his taking the subsequent steps in his profession with our group.”
The native of Cambridge, Ont., registered seven objectives and 24 factors with 80 PIMs and a cumulative plus-20 ranking in 66 profession video games at North Dakota and Alaska. He made his school debut with the Nanooks in 2023-24 and led all freshmen in scoring with 4 objectives and 14 factors and 28 blocked pictures in 31 video games.
